WER IST EMILY OTTO?
“Wie geht es anders?” – Diese Frage stellt sich die Musikerin Emily Otto jedes Mal, wenn sie
Musik schreibt. Herkömmlich ist nicht drin für sie. Freiheit ist das Fundament des
Emi-Songwritings, das sie zuletzt überregional bekannt machte – als Resident Artist ihrer
Heimat und Gesicht der neuen Popmusikförderung der Stadt Leverkusen. 2024 gewann sie
im Duo mit ihrem Bruder Dylan Otto bereits den international ausgeschriebenen „Future
Sounds“-Nachwuchspreis der Leverkusener Jazztage. Im Zuge dessen tritt sie im
November 2025 begleitet vom WDR vor den Weltstars Lawrence und Lizz Wright auf.
Weil sich Emily auf eine lange Liste musikalischer Vorbilder beruft, ist ihr Sound eine wahre
Genre-Collage: Neo-Soul hier, Funk-Pop dort, dazu Ausflüge in den Indie-Folk – diese Musik
umarmt alles.
Live bringt sie all das intensiv auf die Bühne – unterstützt von ihrer Band, kraftvollen
Background-Sängerinnen und dem „ältesten Instrument der Welt im Zentrum: der Stimme“,
wie sie sagt. Emilys Credo lautet: „Ich möchte alles zulassen.“ Und doch greifbar bleiben,
denn: „Die beste Melodie bleibt immer die, die man zusammen singt.”
WHO IS EMILY OTTO?
“What else could I do?” – This is the question musician Emily Otto asks herself every time she writes a song. Freedom is the foundation of Emily's songwriting, which recently brought her national recognition – as the resident artist in her hometown and the face of the city of Leverkusen's new pop music promotion program. In 2024, she and her brother Dylan Otto won the critically acclaimed "Future Sounds" young talent award at the Leverkusener Jazztage Festival. As a result, she will perform in November 2025 accompanied by national German Television alongside world stars Lawrence and Lizz Wright.Because Emily draws on a long list of musical role models, her sound is a true genre collage: a bit of neo-soul, a sprinkle of funk-pop, a dust of indie-folk – music that embraces everything.Live this culminates into a celebration of music, community and simple fun. At the core of her shows lies “the oldest instrument in the world: the voice,” as she says. Emily's creed is: “I want to allow everything.” And yet remain accessible since: “The best melody is always the one you can sing together.”
